You can now marry from the age of 14

The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted on Wednesday on the third, final reading a law allowing, in the form of an exception, to marry persons aged 14 to 16 years at their request, RIA Novosti reports.

For the adoption of the Law "On Amending and Additions to Article 13 of the Family Code of the Russian Federation" voted the absolute majority of deputies √ 403.

In accordance with the law, "local governments give permission to marry persons who have not reached marriage age, taking into account the interests of these persons and taking into account the opinions of their parents (persons replacing them). The decision of the local government may be appealed in court."

The bill establishes that the mayor will be issued for marriage from the age of 14, and not the governors, as in the early stages was spelled out in this document. At the same time, the consent of the parents is taken into account, but is not a mandatory requirement.

The law is aimed at consideration by the Federation Council. In case of approval of the upper house of parliament and the signing by the president, the law will enter into force 6 months after the date of its official publication.
