The presidential election of Turkmenistan will be held in 2008-2010. This, as RIA Novosti reports, said the president of the country Saparmurat Niyazov the night before on national television.

According to him, “serious work on the preparation of bills” is now underway, which will strengthen the role of the highest representative body in the republic - Hulk Maslahata (People’s Council), which will determine candidates for the post of lava of the state.

In particular, 3-5 candidates for the president’s post will be nominated on the annual meetings of the People’s Council. This personnel reserve should be ready in the event of a difficult situation, for example, if something happens to the president, go to the polls.

According to Niyazov, the candidates for the highest state post "should be authoritative people who know how to work, who are known in the country for at least 10 years."
