The OSCE created an international commission to verify the investigation of the attempt on Niyazov

The Organization on Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has created an international commission to verify the investigation of an attempt on the President of Turkmenistan Samarmurat Niyazov on November 25, 2002. This is stated in the message of the OSCE Secretariat in Vienna.

The commission was created on the initiative of 10 member states of the OSCE - Austria, Germany, USA, Canada, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway and Sweden within the so -called "Moscow mechanism" created in Moscow in 1991 and providing for the appointment of experts on checking compliance with human rights.

Emmanuel Deco, a professor of international law of the University of Sorbonne in Paris, was appointed the head of the commission for the fact of the attempt on Niyazov and carried out by the Turkmen authorities of the investigation, RIA Novosti reports.

The commission will have to, in accordance with the principles of the “Moscow mechanism”, conduct an independent investigation and draw up a report on whether there was actually an attempt on the President of Turkmenistan, as well as on the progress of the investigation of the Turkmen authorities in the light of compliance with human rights.

The OSCE Commission calls for all the OSCE member countries, as well as their citizens to provide any information on the objective activity of the commission on the investigated issue. Information on this issue should be sent to the OSCE Bureau for Democratic Institutes and Human Rights to the OSCE Bureau, Lydia Grigoryeva, in Warsaw.
