Last week, the Pyatigorsk court concluded the trial of a local hospital doctor accused of “causing death” by negligence. The head of the neurosurgery department of the Pyatigorsk City Hospital, Khasan Bolurov, was found guilty of “causing death” due to improper performance of his professional duties. According to the local prosecutor's office, in February 2001, a colonel of the FSB Directorate for the North Caucasus was taken to the hospital intensive care unit with a stroke. A week later, the patient's condition improved and he was transferred to the neurology department. However, a few days later the officer suffered another stroke. After resuscitation, the colonel was placed in the neurosurgery department, where, as investigators found out, during treatment the doctors committed a number of gross violations. As a result, on April 4, the counterintelligence officer suffered a third stroke, and died five days later. The officer's colleagues and relatives filed a complaint against the doctors with the prosecutor's office, which confirmed their suspicions during the investigation. According to the conclusion of the Russian Center for Forensic Medicine, the doctor did not take into account during treatment the fact that the officer also suffered from hypertension, which provoked an irreversible deterioration of his condition. Having sentenced the doctor to a suspended sentence, the court also ordered him to pay the colonel’s widow 5 thousand rubles as moral compensation.
