But look... After the autumn-winter apathy and hibernation, the museum, slightly forgotten by everyone, has awakened. I heard the ringing of drops and the purring of March cats. The spring sun began to sparkle in his glasses-windows. Old MUAR stretched, smiled and opened the doors for several good exhibitions. Very spring-like in mood, by the way.
Spring of light
The legendary photographer of Russian architecture, Alexander Alexandrov, did not like to rush. According to the stories of scientists, for whose books Alexandrov photographed ancient Russian cities, the photographer could wait for months for suitable weather, and upon arriving at the place, not pick up the camera for days, catching the right light. The scientist is all tormented: they say, what are you doing? Publishing plans are disrupted. Business trips are running out. And Alexandrov chuckles slyly, uttering a mysterious phrase: “We are waiting for the spring of light.”
What “spring of light” is can be understood by visiting the exhibition of the classic of French photography, Felipe Ferré, that opened in the main building of MUAR. Just like Alexandrov, and also, perhaps, the author of the best photographs in the MUAR archive, Mikhail Churakov, Felipe Ferré is in no hurry in his work. Vainly, for twenty-five years he has been photographing the architecture of Paris. With his works he illustrates no less than a forty-volume encyclopedia with texts, drawings and drawings of Parisian architects. In addition, he publishes his own books, for example, the monograph “Hector Guimard, Art Nouveau Architect,” which is recognized in the professional environment. Ferré's works have been awarded the prize of the Paris Academy of Fine Arts three times.
Like Alexandrov, Ferret can wait for months and rent for weeks on just one building. No stunning angles, no music video direction. Classic panoramas. Software Perspectives. Both classics, Alexandrov and Ferré, trust only Architecture and Light in their work. They wait and watch when the air becomes clear in the spring, but there is still no greenery and flickering glare. When the sun deigns to turn a flat façade into a three-dimensional sculpture with its cutting ray, so that the plans “ring”, as in the drawings and engravings of ancient architectural treatises. In their photographs, architecture is the equivalent of an ideal living space, a formula for spring.
Ikarushki International
The Museum of Architecture again chose the medieval catacombs of the Apothecary Order as an experimental stage. There has just been an exhibition of phantasmagoric collages by the paper architect Boris Zosimov (a constructivist club assembled from ancient ruins, how do you like that?). The other day, the parade of wonderful eccentrics and originals continued with an exhibition of flying people released from the workshop of the architect Vasily Shchetinin, who is close to Mitka. Inspired, on the one hand, by the ancient image of the “liudoptitsa” with all the “letatlins” that follow from this, and on the other hand, by medial phantasms in the spirit of latex “spidermen” and “Batmen”, Shchetinin made the perfect model “Ikarushka”. If you pull the string, the wooden boy will begin to twist his legs, wobble his body, turn his head, and wave his arms. Membranous wings move up and down, down and up. Ikarushka is flying. There was a whole flock of them in the Pharmacy Prikaz. When they all rhythmically flap their wings, a burning desire arises to replace the rooks from Savrasov’s well-known painting with them and rejoice at the coming of spring in MUAR.
