A meeting of the Coordination Council for the consideration of the integrated target project “The Renaissance and Development of the Valaam Archipelago” was held on the eve of the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Karelia Alexander Mukhin, Chairman of the State Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alexander Efimov, representatives of other ministries, departments and organizations.
As the MK-News agency in the Government of the Republic of Karelia was told today, to date, the restoration of the facades of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery has been completed, design work is underway related to the forestry and development of the island. At the finalization stage is the general plan of the central estate of the monastery, which is of the greatest historical value. After its approval, there will be a clear separation of the secular zone allotted to the laity, and the zones of the monastic lifestyle, from where the objects of the social sphere will be evicted.
The color of the old days is planned to be recreated everywhere. In particular, in full accordance with the external historical appearance on the island, several lost buildings will be restored, where a school, a kindergarten and a first -aid post will be placed. Transformations on the island no longer meet, as before, a negative attitude from the local population. According to sociological studies, up to 40% of the inhabitants of the island speak of intentions to leave the island. At the moment, there are over thirty statements from those who want to go to the mainland. Among the reasons why people decide on a similar step are the lack of a normal level of social services on the island of, first of all, educational and medical.
