The representative of the Central Command of the Allies stated on Sunday that in the battles near Basra, the Iraqi general was captured by the British troops, reports Reuters.

“I don’t know what unit he is from,” said Captain Al Lokwood, “I only know that we detained the general.”

According to him, Iraqi officers were captured during the battle in the southeastern part of the Basra between the Iraqi "half-willed formations" led by Iraqi officers and the British special systems.

According to Al-Jazeera, Basra was subjected to air and artillery raids on Sunday morning. British troops are fighting in the northern, western and southern suburbs, the Iraqi army holds positions in the city center.
