Saddam Hussein cannot be identified with the Iraqi people and is not entitled to count on the support of the Islamic world. This is stated in a statement common by the Mejlis (parliament) of the Crimean Tatar people, Rosbalt reports.
According to Ukrainian Muslims, "the current Iraq regime systematically pursued a policy that posed a serious threat to neighboring states." Crimean Tatars also note that Hussein is guilty of the persecution of the Narab population of Iraq, and in particular, the "genocide of the almost two -million Turkmen population of Kirkuk." The Medzhlis deputies say that the fighting in Iraq is not a war between Christians and Muslims. “This is a war against the Saddam Hussein regime,” they say.
According to most Crimean Tatars, "the war in Iraq will end after the overthrow of Hussein, and this will happen soon."
Recall that, according to the latest census, almost 244 thousand Crimean Tatars live in Ukraine, which are a significant political force on the Crimean peninsula.
