Computer games on a military theme have become a hit of sales because of the war in Iraq

For Novalogic Inc, the Iraq war could not begin at a more suitable time, since its beginning coincided with the release of its new computer game Delta Force: Black Hawk Down (Operation "Black Hawk"), based on the bloody events of 1993 in Somalia. The game appeared on March 25 and at about the same time, the Americans could see the real Black Hawk and Apache helicopters on TV screens.

In the first four days, 11 thousand sets of Black Hawk Down were sold, which allowed the game to lead sales ratings. It is still well for sale, occupying the 15th place in the rating of the Amazon online store. This allowed publishers to conquer a place under the sun in the American market of a video game, the volume of which is estimated at $ 10.3 billion.

According to representatives of the Novalogic campaign, they did not aim to play on interest in the war in Iraq. All this became a simple coincidence.

In 2002, the growth of consumer interest in computer games on military topics was noted, writes Wall Street Journal , the article of which is published by Inopressa . This trend is due to the "geopolitical enemy environment", which became obvious after the attacks of September 11. In 2002, Action style games, where it is necessary to destroy the enemies opposing the hero in various ways, amounted to 29% of sales, while in 2001 - only 19%.

The story of Black Hawk Down is not the only success story. You can name several more successfully sold games, for example, Command & Conquer: Generals (generals) - a strategy in which players will have to create and command their army, Battlefield: 1942 and the novelty of this season Call of Duty (Call of the Debt), in which players "can see all the gravings of the war through the eyes of simple soldiers."

According to the department of patenting and registration of the US trademarks, just a few days after the start of the war, the Sony Corporation submitted an application for the registration of the Shock and Troll trademark.

Since the development of the game takes an average of about two years, it is not worth expecting the appearance of the game based on events in Iraq. However, lovers of computer games can establish modifications of famous games adapted to new conditions. For example, Desert Combat (Battle in the desert) is a modification for Battlefield: 1942.
