In Moscow, a special operation to check minibuses is held
A special operation, named Gazelle, which is carried out in Moscow and the Moscow Region by the forces of the traffic police departments of two regions, will end on June 21, a source in the traffic police of the capital said on Monday of Interfax,
The operation began on the morning of June 11. The reason for its beginning was an accident on the Kiev highway, in which the driver and 8 passengers of the "minibus" died . The purpose of the operation is to check the technical condition of all minibuses operating in the Moscow region, the personnel selection of drivers, conduct their medical examination, and get acquainted with the working and rest conditions.
According to the inspector, the most grave violations take place on the exit from the city and in the overloaded sections of the tracks near Moscow, where the drivers of minibuses, trying to go around the "traffic jams", more often violate the rules.
The traffic police admits that this mode of transport is unsafe, but indispensable
The traffic police experts explain the high accident rate of the Gazelle, first of all, "the desire of the owners to maximize the profit, including by more intensive operation of the machines." In violation of safety standards, drivers who are working “in my piece” put additional seats and take “standing” passengers.
The complaints are also caused by specialists in the structural flaws of the car. As the tests showed, out of seven passengers in the Gazelle salon, if it were in real life, two would probably have died, and the remaining would be serious injuries. Nevertheless, being an order of magnitude cheaper than imported minibuses, Gazelle remains one of the most popular among car carriers.
In total, according to the metropolitan city hall, about 2 million people use about 2 million people every day, the services of route taxis owned in Moscow, ITAR-TASS reports. Given the Moscow Region, this figure increases almost one and a half times.
