Meanwhile, according to the senior operational duty officer in the affairs of the Civil Defense and Emergencies of the Amur Region, the emergency occurred at 18.55 local time in the village of Royal Sopka of the Mazanovsky district in the location of the military unit N32407.
Two crews of the fire service and two ambulance brigades went to the scene for extinguishing a fire from the district center of Novokievsky, located 100 km from the military unit.
About an hour after the start of the explosions, all military personnel and the population of the garrison were evacuated to the Norsk village.
Currently, there is a search for military personnel who could be near the place of explosions. There is no information about the victims yet, the agency’s interlocutor said.
As a result of the emergency, telephone communications with the garrison and electricity supply were interrupted.
To study the situation at 23:17 local time (16:17 Moscow time), the operational group of the State Unitary Enterprise for Civil Defense and Emergencies of the Amur Region left for the incident.
In addition, a commission of the Far Eastern Military District, headed by Lieutenant General Valery Gerasimov, flew out to organize the work on extinguishing the storage with ammunition at the scene. This was announced on Wednesday by Interfax, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel Nikolai Deryabin. Deryabin confirmed that at about 13:00 Moscow time as a result of a lightning entry in the storage with ammunition, located 167 km northeast of the city of Belogorsk, the Amur Region, a fire occurred, which led to the undermining of ammunition.
"The population of a military town, located 8 km from the base, was evacuated to the village of Norsk (18 km from the base)," said the official representative of the Ministry of Defense.
