| 24-year-old Krasnoyarsk businessman Zuriko Papava, who in November last year hit a woman and two children with a car, who died immediately at the scene, recently ended up in the hospital with severe electrical injuries. Papava received burns to 25% of his body while trying to cut a telephone cable on the roof of his house and spent two days in intensive care. The collision occurred on November 25, 2002, late in the evening. Zuriko Papava, according to him, was driving his foreign car, observing the “upper limit” of the speed limit. Suddenly, right in front of his car, three figures appeared in the wrong place. Mr Papava claims that he had no opportunity to prevent the collision. Realizing that the pedestrians were dead, the young man chose to flee the scene. He abandoned the car and hid for two weeks until his parents persuaded him to confess. In May, the criminal case against Zuriko Papava was dropped “for lack of evidence of a crime,” but due to the enormous public outcry, the regional prosecutor’s office sent him for additional investigation.
