As Ivo Karlovich became "Carlo the Great"

Croatian tennis player Ivo Karlovich, after the victory over the Australian Llatyon Hughitt, was already awarded the nickname "Carlo the Great" in his country. As in Hughitt’s homeland, the first stripes of many newspapers adorned a photo of a rejoicing giant.

The Croatian daily newspaper "Athletic News", in addition to a photograph of the tennis player, placed a spectacular headline: "Karlovich shocked the world." And in other publications, notes joyful for Karlovich prevailed. The meaning of all articles came down to the fact that Ivo made his way out of zeros into the great people of world tennis. “Until Monday about Karlovich, it was only known that this is the highest player in the Asia -Pacific region. But now he is part of the tennis story, to which the nickname“ Carlo the Great ”was attached,” writes the publication “Journal of Liszt”.

“This is an incredible story. For the first time in Wimbledon’s history, last year’s champion is already in the first round,” adds athletes. At the same time, the newspaper recalls the story of how the American player Charlie Pasalev, who defeated the famous Argentinean Manolo Santan in 1967, was in the same situation. Meanwhile, another Croat by Mario Anchich, who dropped out of the struggle in the first round, hopes for the success of Croatian tennis on Wimbledon. At the same time, Anchich said a very interesting phrase: "When one of the Croats goes to the central court - wait for the sensations. Remember Goran Ivanishevich and the final of three years ago."
