Late yesterday evening, the heir to the throne of Great Britain, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, arrived in St. Petersburg. During his two-day working visit, Prince Charles intends to pay attention to ecology, medicine and victims of domestic violence, and also to donate a sailing yacht to St. Petersburg. The Prince of Wales is visiting St. Petersburg for the second time. He already came to the Northern capital in 1994, and this was the first visit to Russia by a member of the royal British family since 1917. The current visit of His Highness is timed to coincide with two anniversaries: the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg and the 450th anniversary of the establishment of trade relations between Great Britain and Russia. The fact is that in 1553, the English ship Edward Bonaventure under the command of Captain Richard Chancellor entered the mouth of the Northern Dvina. He was received in Moscow by Ivan the Terrible, after which the Russian Tsar sent his envoy to London, and soon the British and Russians agreed on mutual duty-free trade.
The current heir to the throne does not intend to pay much attention to trade relations during his visit to St. Petersburg. But he will visit several city sites, in the financing of which the British side takes an active part. Among them: the Alexandra service for social and legal assistance to victims of domestic violence, the Medical Institute for Early Intervention, and the Children's Environmental Center at Vodokanal. In addition, Prince Charles will present a gift to the command of the Russian Navy and the Leningrad Naval Base - the training sailing yacht Adventure. After St. Petersburg, the Prince of Wales will visit Arkhangelsk and the Solovetsky Islands.
