FSB director climbed Elbrus

Director of the Federal Security Service of Russia, Army General Nikolai Patrushev with a special forces group, climbed to Elbrus.

From August 21 to 23, 2003, operational and tactical exercises of the Special Range Center (Alfa-Opel) and the Aviation Office of the FSB of Russia were held in Kabardino-Balkaria in Elbrusie. This was reported on Sunday by RIA Novosti by the head of the Center for Public Relations of the FSB of Russia Sergey Ignatchenko.

The exercises personally inspected Patrushev. In the conditions of mining-lezing terrain, the FSB special forces have worked out the skills of fighting terrorists. In particular, the special forces conducted exercises to eliminate the hidden base of terrorists and the release of hostages.

At the final stage of the exercises, a group of special forces climbed on one of the highest peaks of the world Elbrus (Western slope, a height of 5 thousand 642 meters), in which Patrushev took part.

According to the representative of the Central Department Store, the director of the FSB, according to the results of the exercises, gave a high assessment of the actions of the special forces.

In addition, during his stay in the republic, Patrushev held a number of working meetings with the leadership of Kabardino-Balkaria, including with the President of the KBR Valery Kokov and the heads of the Republican Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Emergencies and the FSB.
