On October 6, at the end of a press conference at Valentina Matvienko’s election headquarters dedicated to her victory in the elections for governor of St. Petersburg, an activist of the National Bolshevik Party hit the winner with a bouquet of flowers.

The incident occurred in the building of the Mining Institute, where Valentina Matvienko’s election headquarters was located, at 01:30 Moscow time, the radio station “Echo of Moscow” reports with reference to representatives of the NBP . Party activist Natalya Lukovnikova hit the candidate in the face with a bouquet, and her comrades scattered leaflets around the hall demanding that Ms. Matvienko resign from the post of governor and return to Moscow.

The girl was severely beaten by Valentina Matvienko's guards and handed over to the police. Another National Bolshevik, whose name has not been disclosed, was detained at the scene of the incident. Both are currently in the police department.

NBP press secretary Alexander Averin explained that the NBP action was intended to protest against the fact that Valentina Matvienko was “imposed on the city” as governor.
