| The opening of the Third Transport Ring will be timed to coincide with the mayoral elections The mayor of Moscow, who went on pre-election leave, prepared a lot of surprises for voters. In addition to a number of populist bills introduced by the mayor to the Moscow City Duma before the vacation, the city authorities decided before the elections to please the capital’s motorists by putting into operation the last section of the Third Transport Ring. According to Moscow Vice-Mayor Valery Shantsev, traffic along the highway will be ceremoniously opened on December 6 - on the eve of the vote.
However, even before this significant date, the Moscow government decided not to skimp on ceremonial events. Yesterday, Vice Mayor Shantsev opened another section of the Third Transport Ring - from Nizhegorodskaya Street to Entuziastov Highway. He noted that the construction of this two-kilometer section, which began back in 1999, required the builders to use the most modern technologies, since the road passes over existing industrial enterprises, the work of which did not stop for a single day.
Looking ahead, Mr. Shantsev also boasted about the construction of the Lefortovo tunnel. According to him, construction is being carried out using Western technology by a German company, the tunnel will have three lanes in each direction and will have an increased level of protection. Currently, construction is coming to an end, finishing work is underway, and engineering infrastructure is being installed. “The completion of the construction of the Third Transport Ring will allow this section of Moscow roads to solve one of the capital’s worst problems - the problem of traffic jams,” Shantsev said.
Muscovites can only hope that the revived tradition in Moscow of delivering large projects under construction by the red days of the calendar will not again lead to a catastrophic decline in the quality of construction. Alexander GUDKOV |
