The Russian Foreign Ministry hopes that Latvia and Estonia will solve the problem of discrimination of the Russian population

In Moscow, Latvia and Estonia, even before the formal entry into the European Union, will settle the situation related to the situation in these countries of the Russian -speaking population, Interfax reports.

“We expect that those problems that cause the most serious concern of the non -stittle population of Latvia and Estonia will be removed even before the design of the Baltic countries in the EU or, at least, substantial progress will be outlined in their decision,” said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Yakovenko.

He noted that this topic was discussed in detail on October 27-28 in the Moscow negotiations with the EU Commissar on the issues of expanding Günter Ferkhoygen and with the leading ministerial Troika EU, during which expanded information materials were transferred to the generalization of the well-known recommendations of international organizations to the address of Latvia and Estonia on humanitarian themes.

The exchange of views on this problem took place at the Russia-Euger Summit on November 6 in Rome, the diplomat reminded.

According to him, Moscow proceeds from the fact that EU member countries are interested in maintaining high standards in the field of human rights and national minorities in the process of expanding the European Union. In this regard, Yakovenko said, the call contained in the reports of the European Commission on the readiness of Latvia and Estonia for membership in the EU to promote the integration of Russian minorities, primarily by accelerating the procedure for naturalization contained in the reports of the European Commission.

"The implementation of these recommendations, and especially the relevant obligations on international conventions, including the European Council of the Council for the Protection of National Minorities (RKNM), would avoid bringing these pain points of our relations with Latvia and Estonia to the fabric of the structurally developing partnership of Russia with the EU," Yakovenko said.

He emphasized that the implementation of these recommendations would also ensure a successful solution to the issue of distributing an agreement on partnership and cooperation of Russia-Es to Latvia and Estonia. ”
