Sokolova recovers after surgery
Figure skater Elena Sokolova, who performs in single skating, was operated on in one of the prestigious clinics in Moscow. As the athlete’s mother told a Vremya Novostei newspaper correspondent, shortly before the recent Grand Prix stage in Canada, Lena felt pain in her groin. Doctors performed two acupuncture sessions, but it did not help. Nevertheless, the skater did not stop training and performing for a day. And when the pain became unbearable, it turned out that Sokolova had a torn muscle in her groin. The figure skater underwent surgery, and a few days later the student of Viktor Kudryavtsev flew to St. Petersburg to participate in the exhibition show of Arthur Dmitriev. “I don't think this is an irresponsible step. I needed this psychologically to overcome my fear and step through the pain,” Elena explained. At the skates before Skate Canada, Sokolova looked brilliant. No one could have imagined that a weakened body would react this way to a long flight to Canada. On top of that, the athlete had problems with acclimatization when she skated her free program.
