The stringless version of The Long And Winding Road blew me away. I can't say anything bad about the strings that Phil recorded, I just perceive it differently. It's been thirty odd years since I last heard this song in its original form, and it was amazing. Let It Be is also an incredible track, and now you can understand why we ended up calling the album Let It Be.
"Get Back" is a good song, it has that sort of "kicking ass" feeling to it! Same with Don't Let Me Down: two great tracks, simple and raw - a return to the roots. For Get Back I came up with a drum hook that sounded really good and was copied by a lot of drummers. I myself, for example, in the song Back off Boogaloo (from the solo album Blast From Your Past, 1975 - Ed. ).
One After 909 was one of the original compositions written by John and Paul. I had never played it before [before recording]; we were just sitting there and something just started happening. They started playing it, I joined in: “Let’s do this thing, it’s exciting!” Another thing on the album that gets you going.
Something magical was happening to us, telepathy. When we were working in the studio, sometimes it was completely indescribable. There were four of us, but we were like “one we” - even our hearts beat in the same rhythm. Prepared by Alexander BELYAEV
