The prosecutor's office of the Kamchatka region filed a petition with the city court to remove the mayor of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Yuri Golenishchev, from his post for the duration of the investigation, RIA Novosti reports. Last Monday, Golenishchev appeared at the prosecutor's office. He was formally charged with negligence (part 1 of article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), but he refused to testify.
In connection with the refusal of Golenishchev's defense to participate in investigative actions, he was offered two lawyers by appointment. The mayor refused the proposed defenders.
In relation to Golenishchev, a preventive measure was chosen in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the country. Yuriy Golenishchev has been warned of responsibility, up to and including placement in a pre-trial detention center, in case of an attempt to leave Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The prosecutor's office accuses Golenishchev of negligence, expressed in misuse of funds and disruption of the heating season in the regional center.
