The power of money in modern football will not lead to anything good, says UEFA Executive Director Gerhard Aigner. According to him, now the situation in football is becoming dangerous. The time has come when the titles are almost bought with money.
This Aigner spoke about this in an interview with Welt Am Sonntag. Aigner believes that football is primarily a game, and only then a business. "Sports need competition, interesting rivals, and beautiful matches," said the executive director who leaves his post on January 1st.
According to Aigner, who has seen a lot in his lifetime, the situation in the world changed the year in 1995, when the famous Bosman business thundered, which was shook European football. After that, all the players entering the EU began to settle in superglies. After that, clubs that do not have sufficient financial capabilities lost their chances of successful performance in their championships and European competitions.
Aigner thinks that his successors should, first of all, develop laws according to which the stratification of clubs on a financial basis would cease. In this regard, Aigner emphasized that he sympathizes with Stuttgart openly, which plays well in the Champions League, but spends very little money to buy players. And he wishes victory to the Germans in the playoff match of this tournament against Chelsea.
