The first Orthodox temple in Antarctica was consecrated

The governor of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra Bishop of the Sergiev Posad Feognost consecrated in the name of the Holy Trinity the first Orthodox church in Antarctica, erected at the Bellingshausen Russian Polar Polar.

According to the agency of RIA Novosti today at the church-Holder Center of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Orthodox Encyclopedia , a patriarchal courtyard was established under the polar church, subordinate to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

The consecration of a unique temple took place with a large gathering of Russian and foreign polar explorers and pilgrims, many of which arrived at the Bellingshausen station with a special brace.

The temple accommodates up to 30 parishioners simultaneously. It was built in Altai from cedar and larch - rocks that are most resistant to antarctic colds and winds. Then the temple was dismantled for transportation to Antarctica, where it was again assembled.

The icon painters of Palekh worked on the iconostasis of the church, and the descendants of the famous Russian Decembrist Muravyov-Apostol ordered the bells.

The place for the first Antarctic temple was chosen so that the polar explorers could see it from afar - for 30 kilometers.
