A branch of Hermitage opens in Amsterdam

In the capital of the Netherlands on Tuesday, the opening ceremony of the branch of the State Hermitage will be held. From the Russian side, the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Mikhail Shvydka, director of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky, will take part in the ceremony.

"Hermitage. Amsterdam" (or "Hermitage on Amstel") will be located in a building built in the 17th century (Amstelhof) and restored to a branch of the famous Russian museum. Temporary long exhibitions from the Hermitage collection will be shown here, RIA Novosti reports.

The branch is opened by the exhibition "Greek Gold". The museum halls will accommodate exhibits from a special pantry of the Hermitage - Greek jewelry of the VI -II centuries BC.

Among the masterpieces of the exhibition are the earring of the 4th century BC From the famous mound of Kul-Oba near Kerch. This is an example of the microscopic work of masters: the earring is decorated with the smallest grain, thin filigree and two figures of the goddess Nicky.

In addition to objects made directly from gold - and this is about a hundred exhibits - painted vases, silver bowls and mirrors, vessels decorated with gilding will be presented at the exhibition.

The Greek Gold exhibition will last for several months, then in Amstelhof another exhibition from the Hermitage collection will be placed. The Hermitage already has branches in London and Las Vegas.
