Shipping on the Mississippi River in the New Orleans area is completely paralyzed. The reason is a clash on Saturday due to a thick fog of two ships, one of which sank, ITAR-TASS reports. Part of the crew managed to save, but five people are still missing.
The incident occurred in the place through which the only deep -sea fairway passes for large -capacity vessels included in the Mexican of the Gulf of Mexico or the following in the opposite direction.
As a result, more than 80 dry loads and tankers accumulated on both sides of the scene of the accident.
Two cruise vessels, on which thousands of tourists were located, could not get to the New Orleans and were sent to other ports.
Another cruise ship with 3600 passengers was supposed to leave the New Orleans port on Sunday, but it could not go to the Gulf of the Mexican.
According to local authorities, it will take another two days to eliminate the consequences of the incident. For the movement of ships, the key fairway will be opened, possibly only on Wednesday.
