On Sunday, the city of Engels of the Saratov region with a population of 300 thousand people was completely disconnected from gas supply. This happened due to the accident on the gas pipeline Stepnoy-Strazhevka.
According to RIA Novosti, Deputy Minister of Emergencies of the Saratov Region Valery Saraev, today at 3:55 Moscow time there was a destruction of a valve on a gas pipeline 6 km from the village of Stepnoy, the Engels district of the region. The gas that burst out was caught fire.
In the result of the emergency, automation worked and gas supply was stopped. The fire is localized.
“Most likely, the incident is caused by purely technological reasons,” said Saraev. “However, the Prosecutor's Office of the Engels district is connected to the investigation.” Currently, emergency teams of Yugtransgaz are engaged in the elimination of the consequences of the accident.
The steppe gas pipeline with a length of 14 km belongs to Gazprom OJSC. Its service is engaged in OJSC Yugtransgaz.
