
The General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine officially accused ex-Prime Minister Pavel Lazarenko of organizing the murder of people's deputies Evgeny Shcherban and Vadim Getman. This was stated by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Gennady Vasiliev, ITAR-TASS reports.
“There is no policy here, pure crime. Lazarenko should be punished according to our laws,” said the Prosecutor General.
The trial of the former Ukrainian Prime Minister in San Francisco (USA) is planned on March 8. The US prosecutor’s office accuses Lazarenko of laundering $ 114 million through private American financial institutions.
Deputy Shcherban was shot on November 3, 1996 at Donetsk Airport upon arrival from Moscow. The criminals disappeared from the scene.
The deputy, head of the exchange committee of the Ukrainian interbank currency exchange, ex-head of the National Bank, Getman was killed in the elevator of his house in Kyiv on April 22, 1998.
Pavel Lazarenko headed the Ukrainian government in 1996-1997. Since 1999, he has been under investigation in the United States.
