Pedophile Dutroux will be questioned publicly for the first time

The first interrogation of Belgium's most notorious pedophile, Marc Dutroux, is due to take place in Arlon's jury on Wednesday, AFP reports. The process is open. The pedophile's lawyer, Xavier Magnier, built his defense on the fact that Dutroux was just a small fry in a huge pedophile network, which included high-ranking officials. Magnier expressed the hope that during the interrogation the accused would finally name the true customers of the crimes. True, even the lawyer is not yet aware of whether Dutroux pleads guilty.

In accordance with the procedure, the pedophile will first be asked about his childhood, school years, work and affairs of the heart, and only then will they get to the heart of the matter.

In 1996, Dutroux was arrested on charges of kidnapping and raping 6 girls. Two were found alive in the basement of his house. Two more died of starvation, their bodies remained in the house. The offender buried two more 8-year-old girls in the garden alive, having previously drunk sleeping pills. The investigation lasted 8 years. The process received a huge public outcry. Particularly indignant were the actions of the police, who, during the search for the missing girls, checked Dutroux's house - as if he had served time for raping a minor - heard the screams of the girls sitting in the basement and did not pay attention to them.

The prosecution is inclined to the version that all the accomplices in the crimes are already in the dock - Dutroux himself, his ex-wife Michel Martin and his two assistants Michel Lelièvre and Michel Niul.

Magnier's lawyer also recalled the version of the existence of a satanic sect, which the investigation rejected due to lack of evidence. The desire of the lawyer to shift part of the blame from Dutroux to other accomplices unknown to the investigation is based on the fact that in the basements where the girls were hidden, DNA samples were found not only of these six, but also of many other possible victims.
