A cheap and not too attractive prostitute Eileen cannot earn money. She takes little for her services, and love for alcohol, the general masculine and night highway do not greatly contribute to the influx of solvent client. Once in a gay bar, Eileen meets a young lesbian Selboy. That one has a broken hand, problems with parents and a disarming smile. Eileen for the first time feels necessary at least someone, as a result of which he instantly falls in love and decides to take his new familiar somewhere, where they can be happy and carefree together. The trouble is that there is no money for this. Eileen has to go out on the night highway again. But one of the clients decides to rape it. Then she discharges into him the clip of her pistol and takes his money. And then it comes to taste ...
Eileen Warron is a woman actually existing. When she was little, her father raped her. Since then, she began to actively “walk” with the opposite sex, and then she began to take money for it ... In 1990, she was arrested, her guilt in the murders was proved. And twelve years later, Eileen executed. But before that, director Patti Jenkins and the leading role in his film Charlize Theron talked in prison with the first in the history of the United States of America, a woman officially called a serial killer. Eileen even allowed them to use her correspondence in the film. The result is the film " Monster ", the holder of the Oscar Award and one of the main attractions of the Russian film distribution of the beginning of spring.
In this whole story there is a certain soul of cynicism. Well, what, for the sake of a simple spectator who came to the cinema, should empathize with an ugly aunt who killed the men from a pistol, took their money and cars and indulged in everything with her lover - a young pretty lesbian, a real spoiled bitch with beautiful eyes? Even the same correspondence, taken from real life, does not help, although it saturates the picture with the necessary tearful sentimentalism.
The fact that one of the most chic women of Hollywood, the real blonde Charlize Theron , was cynical that the role of the ugly and unfortunate Eilen Warron. For the sake of the Monster, the actress had to gain several more than noticeable kilograms of living weight, as well as allow the make -up artists to disfigure her angelic face. True, the Award of American Kinakademikov redeemed these suffering. Cynical is that the young lesbian of the village is played by Christina Ricci - a very beautiful girl, in my subjective opinion. While the real girlfriend Eileen was also not particularly beauty.
Although, in fairness, it is necessary to admit that both Theron and the Ricci perform the tasks set by the director. Especially Theron. A girl from high society, accustomed to the fact that her best friends are diamonds, the actress masterfully depicts masculinity, cities and smokes like a trucker, walks a shit and actively gestures. Yes, and Ricci does not lag behind, however, no one doubts about her acting abilities.
But that is not the point. The film "Monster" in general is an example of cynicism. Having enlisted the support of the initial titer “The film is based on real events”, the director, such a feeling, completely refuses the thought process and chooses the easiest of all possible ways. And instead of the drama about loneliness or, which would be much better, an absurd story about a mentally ill woman (and the fact that Eileen Warron was a sick person was proved by American experts) is a predictable, pathos and, most importantly, cowardly cinema, denouncing a society, an acute -social statement that does not reach the goal. A movie, in which a cheap prostitute without education, communicating only with drunken visitors to roadside bars, is expressed by high -passive speeches. A movie in which a-Lesbian bitch with an angelic look at the trial pokes a finger at her ex-girlfriend as the heroes of the old fantastic "abductors of bodies" enslaved by the aliens. Cinema, in the deliberate realism of which there is no strength to believe. Firstly, because the main character, no matter how unhappy, tried to show her director (and no matter how unhappy she really is), it is impossible to feel sympathy. And, secondly, because "monster" is just a boring movie.
Even a shame. "The guys do not cry" were much more relevant. And more frank.
