| In Kyiv, a week after his sixty-sixth birthday, Bronislav Nikolaevich Brondukov died. He was born in the village of Dubava, Kyiv region, graduated from a construction college in Kyiv, worked as a foreman at a construction site, then at the Arsenal plant, played in an amateur theater, where he was noticed by the rector of the Karpenko-Kary Theater Institute. After graduating from the institute, Brondukov made his film debut in 1962 in Sergei Parajanov’s film “Flowers on the Stone.” Since then, he has played more than a hundred character roles in such famous Soviet films as “Afonya”, “Autumn Marathon”, “Citizen Nikanorova is Waiting for You”, “We are from Jazz”, etc. One of the most famous and favorite roles for several generations of viewers became Scotland Yard Inspector Lestrade in a series of films by Igor Maslennikov about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. In 1995, Brondukov became the first laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine named after Alexander Dovzhenko, in 1997 he last appeared on the silver screen in the film “Hippiniada, or the Continent of Love,” but a serious illness put an end to his further acting career. In recent years, the actor was bedridden and practically did not speak.
The funeral of Bronislav Brondukov will take place today at the Baikovo cemetery in Kyiv. Culture Department
