The chief rabbi of Russia ( Keror ) Adolf Shaevich turned to the chairman of the State Committee of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Fetisov and the President of the Russian Federation Basketball Sergey Chernov with an appeal to prevent anti -Semitic manifestations in sports, which are held in the country, Interfax reports.
The reason for the appeal, A. Shaevich explained, were insults of racist and anti -Semitic sense, which were defiantly shouted to the women's team of Yekaterinburg during the semifinal match for the Russian Basketball Cup.
“Unfortunately,” writes A. Shaevich, “a precedent was created that is dangerous not only for female basketball, but also for Russian sports in general. Sports in our multinational and multi -confessional country have never been tarnished with antics of this kind.”
