| Today, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) must decide whether it will challenge UEFA's decision regarding the result of the European Championship play-off match with the Russian national team at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. On Friday, the UEFA Appeals Committee rejected another complaint from the Welsh. Both sides were heard at the meeting, which lasted four hours. Wales' position was defended by British lawyer Tim Kerr, doping specialist Christine Ayotte and head coach of the Welsh national team Mark Hughes. The Russian side was represented by RFU President Vyacheslav Koloskov and team doctor Andrei Grishanov. As a result, as Vyacheslav Koloskov stated, “due to the lack of evidence of the presence of a prohibited stimulant in Yegor Titov in the second play-off match with the Welsh team,” the Welsh protest was rejected.
In turn, Mark Hughes commented on this decision: “The arguments of the Russian representative at the UEFA meeting were simply ridiculous. Especially against the backdrop of the absolutely logical and evidence-based position of Wales. This is simply ridiculous - the Russians did not prepare for the meeting at all. They were confident they would win the case."
By March 29, the FAA must decide whether to file a complaint with the final authority - the Court of Arbitration for Sport. But even if the Welsh go to the Lausanne court, they will have to try very hard to have this case considered before June 12 - the start of the final part of the European Championship in Portugal. CSKA won the regular season
CSKA basketball players, having defeated Arsenal Tula on their court - 113:70, became the winners of the regular season ahead of schedule. Theoretically, Kazan UNICS can catch up with the Muscovites in terms of points, but the “red-blues” have an advantage in head-to-head matches. The army team will be awarded gold medals for first place in the super league, and CSKA also receives the advantage of its home ground at all stages of the playoffs of the Russian championship.
The Final Four of the first Russian Cup among women's teams took place in Samara in an extremely nervous atmosphere. On the day of the semi-final matches, the management of the Yekaterinburg UMMC saw a racist and anti-Semitic nature in some remarks from the fans, threatening to boycott the tournament. The decisive match nevertheless took place and ended with a convincing victory for the home team over the girls from the Urals - 90:69. Third place unexpectedly went to the capital's Dynamo, which arrived in the Urals without a number of players from the main squad. The Muscovites, in the absence of almost all of their expensive foreign legionnaires, convincingly won against their teammates from Novosibirsk - 86:63, which indirectly confirms the inconsistency of the personnel policy of the team management. After all, with the mass of Varangians, Dynamo could only take eighth place in the super league. Ilya TRISVIATSKY
Henin-Hardenne stopped two Russian women
The fifth number in the world classification, Anastasia Myskina, failed to make it to the finals of the first category BTA tournament with a prize fund of $2.1 million in Indian Wells (USA). The Russian lost to the best tennis player on the planet, Justine Henin-Hardenne - 1:6, 1:6. At the previous stage, the Belgian knocked out another Russian, Svetlana Kuznetsova, from the fight - 6:4, 7:5. The second finalist was two-time winner of these competitions Lindsay Davenport, who defeated Frenchwoman Nathalie Dechy - 6:2, 7:6 (7:4). The American managed to maintain fourth position in the WTA rankings and did not allow Myskina into the quartet of the world's strongest players. In doubles, Kuznetsova and Elena Likhovtseva reached the final, where they failed to beat Paola Suarez (Argentina) and Virginia Ruano-Pascual (Spain) - 1:6, 2:6.
At the parallel men's Masters tournament, the main troublemaker in Indian Wells was Georgian tennis player Irakli Labadze. For the first time in his career, he reached the semifinals of a competition of this rank, where he lost to Briton Tim Henman - 3:6, 2:6. In another match at this stage, the leader of the ATP championship race, Roger Federer (Switzerland), defeated Andre Agassi (USA) - 4:6, 6:3, 6:4. Ilya TRISVIATSKY
