| The mayor's office again blames Mosenergo for the incident in the metro. Yesterday's accident in the capital's metro, when due to a power surge during rush hour traffic was stopped on the section of the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line from Belyaevo to Oktyabrskaya, gave the capital's authorities a new reason for reproaches against Mosenergo OJSC. Just a couple of hours after this emergency, the press secretary of the Moscow mayor, Sergei Tsoi, accused the power engineers of the fact that it was because of their “inept actions” that several hundred passengers of the morning train found themselves locked in the tunnel between the Novye Cheryomushki and Profsoyuznaya stations. According to Mr. Tsoi, Mosenergo “once again demonstrated unprofessionalism and inattention, and even a reluctance to establish clear, systematic work in its divisions.” Yuri Luzhkov's press secretary emphasized that the city authorities intend to appeal to the management of RAO UES of Russia with a demand to “immediately restore order in the organization under its jurisdiction.” “Today’s accident is just one link in a long chain of failures in the work of Mosenergo,” he recalled.
Meanwhile, the city energy company categorically denies any wrongdoing. As the press service of Mosenergo told a Vremya Novostei newspaper correspondent, there were no problems in the operation of the energy system that could lead to a stop in the movement of metro trains. The culprits, according to power engineers, should be sought rather among the subway workers. In addition, Mosenergo was particularly offended by the negative statements made by the press secretary of the mayor of the capital. “Sergei Tsoi is absolutely incompetent in matters of the electric power industry, but despite this, he spreads hasty statements and makes unfounded conclusions with accusations against the company,” its press service emphasized.
It is noteworthy that almost a year ago, the city authorities and the management of Mosenergo were already sorting things out regarding the incident in the metro that happened on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line in May 2003. Then, representatives of the mayor's office and managers of the Moscow Metro also blamed the subsidiary company of RAO UES, claiming that interruptions in train operation arose due to problems at one of the Mosenergo distribution stations.
