Stereometry Kiselev, old woman ... Damn it, here is a book, demo! That's how everyone would write! No thickness, right? And how much is eaten here! Alexander Solzhenitsyn, "Cancer Corps" |
If we turn to modern school textbooks, we will immediately see that the characteristic that the Kostlots from the “cancerous corps” gives the textbook of the geometry A.P. Kiselev is not applicable to them. Maybe there are a lot of these textbooks, but it is difficult to make any clear idea of domestic or world history out of them-most often because their authors take a wrong tone from the very beginning. As a result, their works begin to resemble anything: a popular science outline, a journalistic brochure, an encyclopedic reference book-but not a solid history textbook for high school.
In many schools, tenth graders study the domestic history on the textbook for educational institutions edited by A. N. Sakharov [1] . As indicated on the title sheet, at one time it was recommended by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. Let's look into it. From the first pages, an unusual pathos is striking, somewhat strange for the educational publication. It seems that the authors are constantly striving not so much to teach the reader as to convince him of something. So, they clearly abuse constant appeals to the reader. In the first section of “Introduction”, which is called “why we study history”, we read: “Getting acquainted with the story in general and with the history of the Fatherland in particular, you will very quickly find that much of what you see and hear, read today, has already been, and more than once, in our past history” (p. 5). The above statement is extremely strange in essence. “Acquaintance with the history in general and with the history of the Fatherland in particular” for some reason is attributed to the plan of the future, although the textbook is intended for the 10th grade, and they begin to study history from the 5th grade (and continue in the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th). And most importantly, this kind of appeal is seemed more appropriate in various “books for students”, the purpose of which is to arouse interest in curious students and encourage them to read the book to the end. In the textbook, one could do without such an advertising move.
Next begin with "stylistic beauty." The authors write: “The past generations invisibly extend their hands to us. They convey to us not only their labor skills, experience, achievements, their acquisitions, successes - material and spiritual, cultural, but also their mistakes, miscalculations, failures, troubles and sorrows. All this left its mark in history and inherited living people inherited. And we, having accepted something from the past and rejecting something, we ourselves leave the inheritance to future generations and our achievements and our mistakes and shortcomings ”(p. 5). It is difficult to object to this philosophical passage, but its need for a textbook is not obvious. And you can already notice the inclination of the authors to string the homogeneous members of the proposal-apparently, it seems to them that this gives reasoning a special persuasiveness. In the same spirit, they continue: “The story is both bright, beautiful, and cruel, terrible science. It is designed to show life in all its diversity - greatness and falls, wonderful deeds, amazing inventions, beautiful movements of human souls and low passions, envy, malice, and betrayal; In the support of people to each other, in mutual assistance and mutual assistance, in violence against the personality of a person and entire nations ”(p. 5–6). It is hard to believe that this text is not from a popular essay, but from a textbook. If the student answered the exam so, then, I’m afraid, the examiner would have every reason to assume that the flow of words hides the inability of the examiner to say anything on the merits.
But the tone has already been set, and the following sections of the “introduction” (“the geographical position of the country and its influence on history” and “nature and its influence on the fate of the country”) are written exactly in the same style. Here is what the authors say about Russian nature: “You could drive hundreds of kilometers and see the same landscape: a calm, majestic and even surface of the earth, covered with thick mixed forest. Sometimes hills appeared, Vyaly [by the way, how many schoolchildren know what "pyre" is? - A. Sh.], Ravines, and even where, for tens of kilometers, cheerful, covered with thick grass of meadows stretched, all the same, on the horizon of the blue, the indispensable edge of the forest. Soft, modest, greenish-gray colors in the summer and a continuous white veil in the winter calmed the thought and evoked deep thought ”(p. 9). And then on more than two pages we read about the “majesty and stingy delights” of nature, about “terrible forest thickets, and destructive forest swamps, and cheerful groves and oaks heated by the sun”. It is hard to believe that this passage is taken from a modern textbook.
The section on the influence of nature on the “fate of the country” is crowned with the conclusion: “On monotonous plain spaces, stubborn, unbending, harsh and at the same time gullible was pierced in gloomy forests.” Reasons on the influence of the geographical position of Russia and Russian nature on the “Russian national character” and Russian history are devoted to countless essays, articles, books [2] . These reasoning are often not unless, they encourage thoughts, but it is strange to represent the matter as if they reflect the opinion generally accepted in historical science and deserve detailed reflection in the textbook for high school.
However, the “introduction” does not end there. In its next section, entitled “Other Features of the Development of Russia”, it is reported that the Russians “due to their multiplicity, resettlement from antiquity on the best lands in the Stopchi-European plain became the most powerful and economic advanced among the rest of the population, turned into the ethnic leader of Eastern Europe” (p. 11). The same page says that some peoples by force were “involved in the channel of all -Russian history” thanks to the influence of “by the local leader - the Russian people”. The expressions “ethnic leader” and “local leader” can cause bewilderment not only among schoolchildren, but also more sophisticated readers, meanwhile, the authors do not give any explanations about this.

The “introduction” ends with a small section entitled the “personality role”. Actually, the role of personality in him is said a little, and what is said, is quite understandable and, in general, undeniable: “Personality, its ideas are as strongly influenced by society, like the forces of nature, as external invasions and other historical circumstances” (p. 13). But the central place in this section occupies a more general reasoning: “And now we will ask ourselves: what is most important in history that has the most powerful effect on it? The answer is very simple: all circumstances in aggregate, their complex ”(p. 13). The rhetorical structure used is difficult to recognize successful. The preceding pages of “Introduction” were devoted to the variety of factors that influence the historical process. The authors convinced readers: it is important to take into account the geographical and natural conditions, the economic situation, foreign policy circumstances; The "human factor" is also significant. And, when they wonder which factor is most important, it seems that now we will get an answer. In order to intrigue the reader even more, the authors say that this answer is “very simple”. But nothing but disappointment, the lustful solution does not cause, because essentially repeats what has already been said on the previous pages: all factors are important.
The main text of the textbook is written in the same vein. Paphos performed by verbose reasoning with chains of homogeneous members, “stylistic beauties”, rhetorical figures and exclamations are called upon to hide the fragmentation and incompleteness of the reported historical information.
The first chapter is called "The background of the peoples of Russia. The beginning of Rus'. " The authors immediately resort to a rhetorical structure already familiar to us (the question, then the message that the “answer is simple”, and, finally, does not mean anything and can only disappoint the reader’s statement): “The study of the history of Russia needs to begin from the time when the first people appeared on its territory. What does this ancient population have to do with the subsequent history of Russia? The answer to this question is very simple. All diverse generations gradually, step by step, became the builders of the history of that part of Europe and Asia, which later formed Russia. ” Next, it seems, a brief and business story about the life of the Eastern Slavs should follow before the emergence of the state, about who inhabited the territory, which they then occupied, whom they found in their neighborhood when they settled on the Dnieper and Ilmen, but instead we find a thoughtful question: “What does the very concept of“ man ”mean?” (p. 15). In the textbook of world history, this issue may be appropriate. It is reasonable to precede the history of mankind with a discussion of how and why people stood out from the animal world. But in the textbook of Russian history, he looks completely stranger. And the authors devote the next eight pages to the humanity of the Paleolithic era, the “Neolithic revolution”, the general problems of ethnogenesis - plots, only indirectly related to the history of Russia. Only on the 23rd page, we finally come into the fact that he has at least some attitude to Russian history: about the ancestral home of the Indo-Europeans and the place that the ancestors of the Slavs occupied among them. Further, for eleven pages, the authors discuss the origin of the Slavs, as well as the features of the tribal system of the East Slavic peoples until the formation of the Old Russian state. Since the problem of the ethnogenesis of the Slavs continues to be debatable, and information about the life of the Eastern Slavs is incomplete, some theses should inevitably cause objections. However, if the authors remained within the framework of the topic under discussion, they would have been able to avoid a number of controversial or directly incorrect formulations. Why was there an explanation of the differences between paganism and monotheistic religions to accompany such a comment: “But, in essence, in paganism and in monotheistic religions, a person gives supernatural forces nature, a great unknowable spirit that gives rise to all living things and immerses it in death” (p. 33)? What is the point of creating a perpetrator of the Calendar of the Eastern Slavs among readers, saying that “the year among the ancient Slavs began, as now, January 1” (p. 34)?
The subsequent chapters are about the emergence of the Russian state, the history of Rus' in the XI - XV centuries (chapters II - III), Russia in the XVI - XVII centuries (chapters IV - V). In them, the selection of the material causes less bewilderment, although sometimes I would like a greater completeness of the information reported. As before, in some cases, the style of the text does not fully meet the genre of the teaching aid. So, saying that Protopop Avvakum Petrov “fiercely argued with Nikon” (p. 225), the authors continue: “But Nikon was powerful. What! Highly! " The story about the fall of Patriarch Nikon is also abundant when Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich “gave the order to find a new candidate for the patriarchs, more accommodating”: “But it wasn’t there! Nikon was in no hurry to give consent to care, he did not want to part with the sweet burden of power. And so it lasted no less than eight years! ” (p. 226–227).
However, the attitude to exclamations in the history textbook is a matter of taste. It is worse that linguistic negligence sometimes leads to a direct distortion of meaning. So, in a paragraph dedicated to the culture of Rus' of the X - the beginning of the 13th century, the authors write: “The basis of any ancient culture is writing. When did she originate in Rus'? For a long time there was an opinion that a letter to Rus' came with Christianity. However, it is difficult to agree with this. There is evidence of the existence of Slavic writing long before the Christianization of Rus' ”(p. 109). When making the last statement, the authors are breaking into the open door. The creators of the Slavic alphabet are traditionally considered the Holy Equal -to -Apostles Cyril and Methodius, who, as you know, lived and preached in the 9th century, and the baptism of Rus' dates from the year 988.
However, the presentation suffers most of all from the annoying desire of the authors to identify the “historical causes” of the events described. It, apparently, is to some extent due to their understanding of the historical process, which, however, does not make their explanations more convincing. So, speaking of the baptism of Rus', the authors report: “The baptism of Rus' was explained by a number of historical reasons. Firstly, the interests of the developing state required abandoning polytheism with its tribal gods and the introduction of a monotheistic religion: a single state, one Grand Duke, one omnipotent God. Secondly, this was required by international conditions. Almost the entire European world has already passed to Christianity, and Rus' could no longer remain a pagan outskirts. Thirdly, Christianity with his new moral standards required a humane attitude towards a person, a woman, mother and children; It strengthened the family - a cell of society. Fourth, familiarization with Christianity could help in the development of culture, writing, and the spiritual life of the country. Fifthly, the emergence of new social relations in Rus', the deepening of people's inequality, the emergence of rich and poor required explanation, required a new ideology ”(p. 60–61). So you see Prince Vladimir, who reflects on how to strengthen the "family - a cell of society", and comes to the conclusion that "deepening of people's inequality requires a new ideology." For some reason, the authors forget here their own statements about the “personality role in history”: they do not even mention that Prince Vladimir ceased to satisfy the pagan faith and that he adopted Christianity after the “test of ver” [3] .
The shortcomings of the textbook of A. N. Sakharov and V. I. Buganov are especially clearly visible against the background of “textbook of Russian history for high school”, written by S.F. Platonov, a textbook on which they studied history in Russian gymnasiums of the beginning of the last century [4] . S.F. Platonov also proceeds from the fact that the history of human society is determined by the aggregate action of a number of interacting factors. However, his approach is far from historical determinism, the explanations of the actions of historical persons are psychologically reliable, we will not meet the search for artificial “historical reasons” anywhere. This is largely due to the fact that S.F. Platonov does not speak of the influence of various factors in the language of “reasons”, but in the language of circumstances that have developed at this historical moment, and the consequences caused by one or another historical event. The accounting of the “human factor” is achieved, among other things, with capacious characteristics of historical persons: “Tsar Fedor Ivanovich was incapable of business, painful, quiet and praying person”, “pan Stanislav Zholkevsky, a talented commander, an honest and intelligent person”, “Biron did not love Russia and despised the Russians, but he himself was a bad, ignorant and evil man,”. "A talented speaker and an extremely nice person P.A. Stolypin in personal properties." Of course, such characteristics are subjective and sometimes resemble labels, but the very description of the events in which these characters participate are so soundly that everyone, he agrees or does not agree with the author’s estimates, receives a sufficient clear idea of the historical process.

The formulations of S.F. Platonov are extremely correct and accurate. Apparently, today this is the highest quality manual in the Russian pre-revolutionary history-at least in the part where the presentation is brought to the reforms of Emperor Alexander II. The post -reform period is described in the textbook in less detail, but equally correct. Therefore, the situation with the textbooks of pre -revolutionary Russian history cannot be recognized as “catastrophic”. It would be possible to teach the story “according to Platonov” and not particularly care about creating new textbooks, although some new textbooks are also good (of those that I managed to get to know, the best textbook of A.L. Yurganova and L.A. Katsva seems to me the best [5] , in which, like S.F. Platonov, “history is considered as a result of the actions of specific personalities,” so students receive an idea of “variability of historical development”).
Things are much worse with textbooks on Russian history of the XX century. If we take a textbook, which, as said on the title sheet, “is the winner of the competition for the creation of textbooks on the latest domestic history for educational institutions of the Russian Federation by order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation” [6] , we will see that the authors do not fulfill any ideological order and strive to write the truth. However, they obviously do not know what is the truth about Russian history of the 20th century.
In some places, traces of Soviet propaganda usage are visible in the textbook. For example, speaking of the beginning of the war in Korea, the authors write: “In the southern part of this country, which was engaged in the war with Japan of Japan, the creation of the Republic of Korea with the capital in Seoul was proclaimed. In the northern part of Korea, liberated by Soviet troops, in August 1948, the Korean People's Democratic Republic (DPRK) with the capital in Pyongyang arose (p. 232).

Victory!"
