| Participants in the Great Patriotic War will be given 10 free minutes for long-distance calls Rostelecom decided to give veterans a traditional gift for Victory Day. On May 9, all participants in the Great Patriotic War will be able to call fellow soldiers and relatives from other cities and countries of the former USSR for free.
Veterans will receive up to 10 free minutes and can use them both from their home phones and at call centers. As Rostelecom promises, some telephone booths will still work on the holiday Sunday. In addition, similar services will be provided in seven more hospitals in the capital. In particular, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd hospitals for veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the maxillofacial hospital, the Konkovo boarding house for disabled war veterans, the Moscow regional hospital and the Moscow “Cheshire House” of the Society of War Invalids in Afghanistan.
Those who decide to celebrate the next anniversary of the Victory by participating in the parade and festive processions will be able to use mobile telephone exchanges that will be located in places of public festivities: on Poklonnaya Hill, Manezhnaya Square, Tverskaya Street and in Gorky Park. To call their loved ones for free, veterans will need to present an ID card of a participant or disabled person of the Great Patriotic War and a passport. As for calls from residential telephones, the amount for 10 minutes of long-distance calls on this day will be debited from the account on the day of payment upon presentation by the veteran of the same documents.
In addition, the Ministry of Antimonopoly Policy and Entrepreneurship Protection (MAP) allowed telephone and telegraph operators to establish discounts of up to 20% on all services provided. Therefore, from May 7 to 9, disabled people and participants in the Great Patriotic War, as well as persons equivalent to them, will be able to save money on sending telegrams to their relatives and friends.
