Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili on Monday took part in the dismantling of a checkpoint on the Choloki River on the administrative border of Adjara. Personally managing a bulldozer, he demolished the building, where the guards were previously located and the inspection of citizens was carried out.
The checkpoint on the Choloki River has been operating over the past years and in case of difficulties between Tbilisi and Batumi, the power structures of autonomy blocked the movement through it.
“Never in the future in the history of Georgia into Choloki will be a dividing line between Ajaria and the rest of Georgia,” Saakashvili said, speaking on Monday at the opening ceremony of the restored central automobile bridge over Choloki.
The President of Georgia said that he instructed the relevant departments to restore roads in Adjara, including in high -mountain regions, and rehabilitate the infrastructure of autonomy, RIA Novosti reports.
“Time of throwing stones has gone, it's time to collect stones. It is time for construction,” Saakashvili said.
Three automobile bridges on the administrative border of Adjara, connecting autonomy with the rest of Georgia, were blown up by order of Aslan Abashidze on May 2.
