According to the forecasts of the World Health Organization , in the next 25 years, about half of the smokers will die from the causes due to smoking, and half of them will take smoking 20 years of life. The cause of their death can be not only lung cancer or heart disease, but also other diseases.
Smoking causes the development of chronic obstructive lung disease, leading to disability. The rejection of it even in old age leads to a rapid improvement in health, the risk of myocardial infarction decreases for the first 1-2 years, and soon the likelihood of lung cancer is also significantly reduced.
Russia, suffocating and coughing, wanders along the tobacco road to the opposite side of civilized countries, the “Independent Gazeta” writes on Friday, noting that in civilized countries the prevalence of smoking over the past decades has significantly decreased, largely due to legislative measures.
About 70% of adult men are smoked in Russia, the number of smoking women increased from 10-12% in the mid-90s to 27-30% in 2000-2001. The age of smoking is constantly reduced: boys begin to smoke at 10 years, girls - at 12.
In the USA, for example, the number of smoking adult population was 60%in the 40s, in the mid-60s-30%, in the mid-90s-20-25%, and at present even less. In Western Europe, 34% of men and 25% of women smoke, in Canada - 28% of men and 25% of women. In all these countries, the mortality of the trachea, bronchi and lungs has sharply decreased.
Narcologist from the Institute. Serbsky Olga Speranskaya says that in Russia smoking children of 6-7 years old are increasingly found, later these children go to drinking alcohol and become alcoholics. At the age of 15, every tenth teenager has a pronounced tobacco dependence.
Among students of vocational schools at the age of 16-17, two-thirds of young men and about half of the girls smoke. It is no accident that the incidence of lung cancer in the country over the past 10 years has increased by 63%, and in some cities it exceeded the highest rates ever registered in the world. These are set records.
Our country has become a heavenly oasis for tobacco companies. An enthusiastic advertisement for a luxurious life with a cigarette in the mouth is pursuing in the subway, at stops of ground transport, even in the toilet. The miserable warnings of the Ministry of Health look like a mockery. Tobacco smoke takes 200 thousand lives annually.
“Smoking turns the lungs into ashes,” says Academician Alexander Chuchalin, director of the Research Institute of Pulmonology, the chief pulmonologist of the Russian Federation. - The person who smokes a pack of cigarettes per day passes through the lungs in 40 years 250 kg of tobacco resin.
In May, for the sixth time, the international campaign “Rot smoking and win”, approved by the World Health Organization, launched. Tobacco dependence is the only disease, the successful treatment of which the World Health Organization decided to stimulate with the help of cash prizes.
The organizer of the action in Russia became the Research Institute of Pulmonology. People over 18 years old, smoking at least a year every day, which will completely quit smoking at least one month after the indicated date, will be able to take part in the prize draw. But the main gain is not money, but life and health.
In Russia, medical complications are the main motive for smoking. Most often, doctors are addressed by men over 40 years old. Among the symptoms that disturb them are impotence. Social reasons do not yet play a role in the desire to abandon smoking.
“To quit smoking is very easy, I personally did this a hundred times,” Mark Twain joked. For various reasons, 75-80% of the smokers would like to quit smoking, but only a third of them made at least three serious attempts in this direction. The first month is especially difficult, therefore it is precisely such a period that is determined in the "quit smoking" action.
Nevertheless, according to academician Alexander Chuchalin, 50-60% of those wishing to give up the habit of tobacco can achieve this. The main thing is motivation. Alexander Chuchalin himself was an avid smoker, but managed to overcome this habit. He said that, having arrived at the Pripyat River, then not yet poisoned by the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, to the places of fabulous beauty, he realized that the smell of herbs, the aromas of nature are completely different, when tobacco does not interfere with their perception. And he threw a cigarette forever.
It is necessary to protect non -smokers from tobacco smoke, according to the chief pulmonologist in Russia, protect children and adolescents, prohibit advertising tobacco products, and increase their taxation. In Ireland, he said, swung at the holy of holies - in pubs, beer, which traditionally play the role of folk clubs, recently introduced a fine of 3 thousand euros for smoking . The motive was the news that the average life expectancy in Ireland is 10 years less than in the little smoking Norway, where it is 90 years.
In Russia, an indicator of life expectancy barely reaches 65 years, that is, we live 25 years less than in Norway, but this, as they say, does not sway anyone. Paradise for tobacco companies is firmly fenced.
