| An assassination attempt was made on the head of Dagestan television In Makhachkala on Friday, an attempt was made on the life of the chairman of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company "Dagestan" Tagib Abdusalamov. In the afternoon, in the very center of the city, when he was leaving a cafe after lunch, a shot was fired at him from a sniper rifle. By yesterday, investigators had failed to find not only the sniper himself, but even the place where the shooting came from and the weapon. Mr. Abdusalamov himself was sent to the hospital in serious condition - a bullet hit him in the chest and passed a few centimeters from his heart. Professor of the Dagestan Medical Academy Abakar Abakarov said that at the time of arrival at the 1st city hospital, the wounded man’s condition was extremely serious - he lost a lot of blood, but he endured the operation well, his condition is stable and at the moment doctors do not fear for his life. The prosecutor's office has opened a criminal case on the fact of attempted murder; among the main versions, one of the main versions is the professional activity of the victim. However, the prosecutor’s office is in no hurry to draw conclusions, saying that first it is necessary to “get to know more deeply” the personal life of Mr. Abdusalamov and only then make any assumptions.
The very confirmation of Tagib Abdusalamov to the position of chairman of the Dagestan State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company in February 2002 was accompanied by a scandal. The previous chairman - Raul Ilyasov - was appointed to this post by the State Council of the republic, and Mr. Abdusalamov was confirmed as the head of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of Russia, that is, at the federal level. For several days there was dual power on the channel, after which Ilyasov was forced to leave his position. Of course, this could not please the leadership of Dagestan, since the channel with an audience of about 2 million people actually became uncontrollable by the authorities of the republic. In addition, with the arrival of Mr. Abdusalamov, the staff of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company was sharply reduced, and many former subordinates could feel personal hostility towards the new chairman of the channel. It was often mentioned that Mr. Abdusalamov had no direct connection with the media before - he was engaged in business, worked as the deputy head of the administration of the Kizilyurt district, and even earlier he managed to become a world and European champion in kickboxing. Therefore, he was often reproached for unprofessionalism. There were even proposals to “voluntarily” leave the chairman’s chair, after which Mr. Abdusalamov was forced to hire security. Well, since after his arrival on television the channel took a tough propaganda line against Wahhabism, fanatical extremists also had reasons to hate the “Moscow protege.”
Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the Southern Federal District Vladimir Yakovlev immediately stated that this assassination attempt was carried out precisely for political reasons, and especially noted that “in this way no one is allowed to express their disagreement with the channel’s policy.” Mr. Abdusalamov’s relatives say that “to spite everyone, he feels well and as soon as he gets better, he will immediately return to work.” Konstantin FILATOV |
