Researchers from the National Laboratory in Tennessa created a metal with the properties of amorphous substances. New metals with a subservient atomic structure, similar to the structure of glass, are much stronger than ordinary metals, but at the same time - easier than them, reports Nature .
Usually in metals, atoms are packed in a crittal lattice. The structure of amorphous substances (for example, glass) is similar to the structure of liquids, except that they are relatively motionless in space.
Previously, metals with a non -combined atomic structure could be produced from expensive zirconium and palladium. The production of amphoteric version of iron based on iron, proposed by researchers, is much cheaper.
