Olympic fire arrived in Moscow


The plane with Olympic fire on board arrived on Saturday morning from Helsinki to Moscow Airport "Sheremetyevo-1". Thus, the Moscow stage of the World Relay Olympic fire "Athena-2004" began.

From the airport, fire will be delivered to the worship of the mountain. From here to Vasilievsky descent, he will be carried by 120 torches.

The Moscow stage of the relay will be 38 km. Moreover, at the start and at several stopping points of the relay, a festive entertainment program for Muscovites and guests of the capital will be organized.

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee Leonid Tyagachev and the vice-mayor of Moscow Valery Shantsev will take part in the relay. Among the torch were also the head of the Federal Agency for Physical Education, Sports and Tourism of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Fetisov, hockey player Pavel Bure, artist Dmitry Pevtsov, TV presenter Andrei Malakhov, actress Olga Kabo and others.

The relay race will begin at 14:00 on Poklonnaya Gora, and end at 20:00 at the walls of the Moscow Kremlin. On the way of fire in Luzhniki for sports lovers near the large sports arena, six mini-football fields and eight venues for streetball will be broken, at which tournaments with the participation of 120 amateur teams will be held.

An extreme sports park will be built on the Sparrow Mountains, where spectators will be able to see the demonstrations of professional skateboarders, rollers and motorized masters. The solemn gala concert on the Vasilievsky descent will crown the meeting of the Olympic fire in Moscow.

The movement will be blocked from 14:00

In Moscow, in connection with the Moscow stage of the World Olympic Fire Relay, from 14:00 Moscow time, the movement of vehicles along the relay route will be closed before the event.

Relay security will provide seven thousand police officers

In the course of the Moscow stage, the Olympic fire relay ramp will provide over seven thousand law enforcement officers. This is stated in the information received by RIA Novosti a message from the management and public relations (WIOS) Main GUVD Moscow.

Before the event began in Victory Park and on the Vasilievsky descent, a survey of the start and finish places will be carried out.

In addition, police officers will check the sites of theatrical and sports festivals on the Sparrow Hills, the Luzhniki sports complex, as well as the places for collecting torchs on Kaluga Square and the entire movement route using service dogs specially trained in the detection of explosives and explosive devices.

According to Wios, in order to ensure public order and security in the capital, an operational headquarters will be created for the period of this event.

The Olympic fire relay committee will bring its own security service to Moscow to work at the Moscow stage "World Olympic Fire Athena 2004". This was announced by the press secretary of the organizing committee Tim Leberecht.

"In the light of recent events in the world, security is come to the fore. For us this issue is a priority. To carry out the safe movement of participants in the relay race in Moscow, we will bring our team, which travels with us throughout the international route," the spokesman said.

Leberecht did not call the specific measures taken by the host party, noting that this issue is not in its competence. “I can’t tell you what the Moscow government has done, but I can assure you that our actions are coordinated with the capital's authorities and the Russian Olympic Committee,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
