Baku police detained the parishioners of the Juma mosque

About 10 women from among the members of the Juma religious community were detained on July 5 by the Baku police, Blagovet-Info reports. This happened after their statement about the violation of the freedom of conscience and religion in Azerbaijan, the reason for which was the intervention of the police in the commission of religious rites in the Juma mosque.

According to reporters, the Imam of the Juma Mosque, the famous Azerbaijani human rights activist Ilgar Ibragimoglu, the women were detained upon returning home and taken to the 8th police department of the Sabail district of Baku.

By the evening, one of them became ill, and she was hospitalized by ambulance. Ibragimoglu regarded all this as a gross violation of religious freedom. In his opinion, the civilized behavior of members of the religious community after the seizure of the Juma mosque was angry with power, and they strive to provoke believers at all costs to illegal actions. “But we will not go to any provocations and will achieve our rights with legal methods,” Ibrahimoglu emphasized. According to him, the struggle of the members of the community "Juma" receives more and more support both in the country and the international community.

Ibragimoglu described what is happening around the Juma mosque as arbitrariness. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that, if we follow the decision of the court, the mosque building had to be transferred to the Historical and Architectural Reserve of Icery-Shekher, but in fact it was transmitted to a completely different structure. "In the early days, believers allowed the mosque to perform prayer. From yesterday they have not been allowed even this," Ibragimoglu said.
