The Finnish pilot Kimi Raikkonen won the qualifications of the 11th stage of the Formula-1 championship-Grand Prix of Great Britain. At the same time, it is the McLaren Raikkonen team that is the main contender for victory in the race, which will be held on Sunday.
It should be noted that the last Powl-Upers of McLaren was last September at the Grand Prix of the United States. Now Maclaren is considered one of the main applicants for victory in the second part of the season, as the team goes to the track with a new engine. “It is great to be the first, especially after the start of the season. Only to remember how many races we did not finish, although we approached them in good condition,” Raikkonen said.
Raikkonen, speaking by car with a new MP4-19B engine, Finn showed the best circle time, which is equal to one minute 18.233 seconds. This result is 0.072 seconds better than the one showed by the Brazilian Rubens Barricello, who plays for Ferrari. Barricello will start with Raikkonen from one starting row. The second row was Jenson Batton from Bar and Michael Schumacher from Ferrari. In the third row will take the place of the Italian's car Yarno Truly and David Kulthard.
In the first part of the qualification, many pilots deliberately showed the worst than they could, then to start among the first and not fall under possible rain. The first such maneuver was Michael Schumacher, who, during a quick circle, specially made a mistake and showed one of their worst results.
In the second part of the qualification, the rain did not go and all the pilots managed to drive along the dry highway. For a long time, the result of Rubens Barricello, who managed to get ahead of his partner Michael Schumacher, remained the result. Two Ferrari pilots were leaded until Kimi Raikkonen appeared on the highway. The vice-champion of the world during the first two sectors was inferior to the result of Barricello, but in the last sector managed to reach first place.
