Having moved to St. Petersburg, Valentina Matvienko moved significantly away from the president - she ended up in last place in the ranking of courtiers

The nomination “Courtiers” allows us to identify the newsmakers most often mentioned by journalists together with Vladimir Putin. It may seem surprising, but the results of the past quarter convincingly prove that the people standing next to the president are by no means the most famous. Of the ten newsmakers who are closest to the head of state in the table of courtiers, only two are in the top ten most mentioned: German Gref (5th place in terms of mention) and Boris Yeltsin (8th). The rest, with the exception of Mikhail Kasyanov, did not rise above the 30th line in the mention rating.
The high places in the table of the courtiers of Dmitry Medvedev, Igor Ivanov and Dmitry Kozak are explained by their positions. But the closeness of Irina Khakamada, Boris Nemtsov and Dmitry Rogozin to the president is caused by nothing more than information parasitism - we introduced this term when summing up the results of the previous quarter. To attract attention, these politicians are forced to use the authority of the president, which explains their frequent mention in the media together with Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile, in our rating there are newsmakers who are even closer to the president than Dmitry Medvedev, but are practically not mentioned anywhere. This is presidential assistant Alexander Abramov (in 83% of media materials in which this newsmaker appears, Vladimir Putin is also mentioned), as well as Dmitry Medvedev’s deputies Igor Sechin (81%) and Vladislav Surkov (73%). Surkov ranks 87th in terms of overall mentions, Sechin is 127th, and Abramov is 186th. Thus, the president’s true circle does not strive for publicity at all.
Truly public newsmakers, in turn, do not at all seek to get closer to the president. On the contrary, they demonstrate their worth in every possible way even without the head of state. Confirmation of this is the parade of governors and oligarchs at the tail of the court table, headed by Valentina Matvienko.
Separately, it is worth noting the significant progress in the ranking of courtiers Igor Ivanov (from 34th to 5th place), Mikhail Kasyanov (from 28th to 4th) and Sergei Ivanov (from 35th to 13th position). Sergei Mironov (from 7th to 32nd place), Viktor Khristenko (from 14th to 25th) and Gennady Zyuganov (from 11th to 22nd) fell back more than the rest.
