Panichids serve as "Kursk"

In St. Petersburg, in the Nikolo-Bogoillensky Sea Cathedral, a memorial service was served on the dead submariners of Kursk today. Memory ceremonies were held in Arkhangelsk, Severodvinsk, and in a number of other Russian cities. In a mourning panchid in the village of Vidyevo, where Kursk went on his last campaign, took part in the commander in Chief of the Navy Vladimir Kuroedov, who, according to RIA Novosti, is located in the Northern Fleet "with the verification of ships and personnel for readiness to serve before the upcoming campaigns and exercises."

The Kursk underwater atomic cruiser with 118 crew members suffered an accident on August 12, 2000 in the Barents Sea 157 kilometers northwest of Severomorsk. All sailors died. The official investigation came to the conclusion that the cause of the death of the Premier League was an explosion on board the training torpedo.

Relatives of the dead expressed disagreement with the termination of the investigation. On behalf of the families of 40 dead sailors, lawyer Boris Kuznetsov appealed to the Moscow garrison and district military courts, demanding to resume the investigation. However, the courts of the first and second instance did not find grounds for the resumption of the investigation and refused to satisfy the complaint. The lawyer prepared an appeal to the Strasbourg court.
