| A model of the monument to Viktor Tsoi was briefly installed on Arbat A monument to the singer may soon appear near the wall in memory of the cult rock musician of the 80s Viktor Tsoi on Krivoarbatsky Lane in Moscow. Yesterday, on the 14th anniversary of the death of the leader of the Kino group, a plaster model of the sculpture was unveiled.
On the monument, the rock idol is depicted barefoot, wearing sunglasses and riding a motorcycle. “He was barefoot because his shoes made him cruel,” explains the author, sculptor Alexey Blagosvetnov, of his composition. “And the sound of the engine of the Java motorcycle of the 1961 model, in my opinion, coincides with the timbre of Victor’s voice.” And in general, there are no random details in the sculpture. According to Mr. Blagosvetnov, he modeled Tsoi from movies. Crossed arms, proudly raised head are characteristic features of Tsoi. “He is absolutely alive there, as if he slowed down for a second at his wall, stands for one minute, pushes off with his foot and rushes on, to where he is now,” says director Sergei Solovyov, who is supervising the monument project.
The monument to Tsoi is Alexey Blagosvetnov’s thesis work, which he worked on for almost three years. Work on the model of the two-meter sculpture took a month. The rest of the time, as the author admits, he was “nurturing an idea.” However, when exactly the plaster model will turn into a full-fledged bronze sculpture is still unknown. Firstly, we have to raise money for the monument - about 6 million rubles. This problem, according to the authors of the project, can be easily solved. Chairman of the Russian Youth Union Oleg Rozhnov and film director Sergei Solovyov have already called on all fans of the Kino group to chip in. “Tsoi was a real, popular, youth symbol of the last century, so we invite everyone to allocate a small amount of money so that everyone can consider themselves involved in the installation of the monument,” said Mr. Rozhnov.
The second problem is much more significant - the categorical protest of the residents of the house located opposite the wall in memory of Tsoi. “We have no personal hostility towards Tsoi, but his fans are simply monstrous! - say the residents of house No. 3 on Krivoarbatsky Lane. “These people in rags and with Iroquois come to the wall in crowds: they drink, they shout, they spit. “In addition, erecting a monument near a house where Tsoi never lived is inappropriate.”
It was because of the conflict with the residents that the authors of the monument decided to take away the model immediately after the presentation, fearing that the free expression of the citizens’ will would leave no stone unturned from the plaster Tsoi.
