The United States refuses to recognize the results of the referendum to continue the powers of the President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez and call on as soon as possible to start a full -scale transparent investigation regarding the frauds reported by the opposition.

The State Department of the United States also noted that they were not ready to accept the conclusions of observers from the organization of American states (OAG) and the Center of Carter, from which the former president of the United States watched the voting progress.

OAG Secretary General Cesar Gaviria confirmed the victory in the referendum of supporters of the extension of the powers of the President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez. Based on the calculation of 94.5% of the total number of ballots, the National Electoral Council announced that 58% of voters supported Hugo Chavez.

Earlier, speaking at a press conference in Karakas, Gaviria said that observers did not find any fraud. “If the opposition has serious doubts, we are ready to work with it, but not to question the results,” he added.

The former US President Jimmy Carter, who observed the same opinion, expressed the same opinion. "Our conclusions coincide with partial results declared by the National Electoral Council," he said.

Meanwhile, the opposition, on the initiative of which the referendum was held, continues to argue that most voters spoke out for the displacement of Hugo Chavez, the presidential term of which expired in 2006.
