Experts warn of a powerful Internet attack by terrorists, which may take place on August 26. "They (terrorists) have enough knowledge and experience for paralying the Internet. The Internet can stop working for several hours," Alexander GOSTEV, one of the leading Russian antivirus experts, said at a press conference in RIA Novi experts.
According to him, information about the upcoming attack was published on specialized sites. “It is difficult to evaluate its reliability,” said GOSTEV. “We evaluate the opportunities and the means that terrorists possess, and they cause our fears.”
According to him, the United States and Western Europe will suffer from the attack, to a lesser extent, Japan.
In turn, Yevgeny Kaspersky, the head of the Kaspersky antivirus laboratory , noted, speaking at a press conference that such a danger does not threaten the military facilities of Russia, because they "are at a significant distance from the Internet."
"The least of all countries will suffer, which are less dependent on the Internet, for example, Afghanistan," Kaspersky said. In his opinion, if the Internet is “turned off” for several hours, the work of many companies will be paralyzed.
He noted that the threat of attack for private users is not as great as for large business and state structures. According to Kaspersky, as a result of such attacks, the Australia railway stopped working in the past, the US Embassy stopped issuing visas, South Korea was disconnected for several hours.
“I am afraid that if terrorist organizations take up the matter, it will be impossible to stop them,” Kaspersky concluded.
