During all 13 years of its independent existence, Ukraine was proud of the fact that, despite internal contradictions, there were no significant clashes in the country, no human blood was shed. Due to internal stability, there were no terrorist attacks here either. Everything changed on the eve of the most fundamental presidential election campaign for Ukraine.

On August 20, two explosions sounded at one of the markets in Kyiv, "Troenshchina". Explosive devices, the power of which, as established by experts, was equal to 200 grams of TNT, were placed in trash cans. To increase the lethal force, they were stuffed with screws and nails. Despite the fact that the explosions sounded at 18.00, when the market was not crowded, 14 people became victims. One of them, a cleaning lady, died of her wounds in the hospital.

At first, no one thought to call the incident a terrorist attack. The journalists decided that this was a manifestation of a criminal showdown. The owner of "Troenshchina" was the authority Pryshchik, who was killed in December last year, and everyone thought that there was a struggle for the inheritance.

Immediately after the explosions, the Kiev administration announced the closure of the market. It was announced that a new shopping and entertainment center would be built in its place. It is clear that the second version immediately arose - the economic one.

Further, events acquired an uncontrollable character. Hundreds (and according to some reports, thousands) of angry merchants on August 25 blocked traffic across the Dnieper. Clashes erupted between protesters and drivers. Cars crashed into the crowd. For this they were turned over, those who were driving were beaten. As a result, three were taken to the hospital.

The next day, a crowded rally was held in front of the city administration building. The merchants got their way - the market was temporarily opened. Of course, in the light of the upcoming elections, politicians, primarily opposition ones, could not help but shine in the crowd: representatives of the Socialist Party and the Ukrainian People's Party (former Rukh). The latter is part of Viktor Yushchenko's Our Ukraine bloc. Apparently, this circumstance suggested to the security forces the most effective variant of solving the crime in Troenshchina.

Four men and one woman were detained on suspicion of organizing the explosions. In particular, he is an employee of the only opposition TV channel in Ukraine. According to Alexander Milenin, the head of the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kyiv, the involvement of the detainees in the explosions has been proven. During the search, they seized schemes for making explosive devices, taken from the Internet, and certificates of members of the Ukrainian People's Party. According to Milenin, the motives of the detainees were the desire to influence the political situation and cause social tension.

It is clear that the leadership of the UNP denies these accusations. People's Deputy of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kirilenko called the statements of the security forces a provocation: "Now the situation is dictated by the election campaign, and the police are more engaged in politics than their direct duties - the fight against crime."

“It looks like a planned provocation, manipulation technology, when such informational occasions are used. There is a big distance between the members of the UNP and the presidential candidate who entered by self-nomination (Yushchenko)," said Igor Hryniv, the first deputy head of Viktor Yushchenko's headquarters.

Ukraine lives in anticipation of the "Georgian scenario", although it does not believe in its implementation. Opinion polls show that only a small part of the population is ready to take to the streets in case of falsification of the election results. Nevertheless, the country's security service considered it its duty to warn ahead of time that it would use force in the event of a "rose revolution". It is clear that tension is being escalated. Only now the opposition's participation in these incidents brings dubious dividends, while the authorities seem to be successfully collecting reasons to declare a state of emergency in the country.
