Observer: Under the guise of rotation, Britain will reduce the military contingent in Iraq

In October, Great Britain intends to reduce the number of its military contingent in Iraq, the British Observer writes today. According to the publication, this should happen contrary to the fact that such measures can complicate the safety situations on the eve of the elections in Iraq. Currently, the number of British soldiers in Iraqi territory is about 8 thousand people.

As the publication emphasizes, the upcoming reduction will pass during the planned rotation of the units. Brigades, currently deployed in Germany, will arrive in Iraq. The final indicators of the contingent reduction have not yet been defined.

At the same time, it is now possible to say with confidence that the number of British troops in Iraq will be significantly reduced after the rotation, sources of the British edition in military circles in London and Iraq said. According to Observer, the fact of the upcoming rotation was confirmed by the representative of the British command in the Iraqi city of Basra.

The assumptions published in Observer contradict the previously made statements by the head of the British Ministry of Defense Jeff Hong, who announced that the UK intends to send an additional military contingent to Iraq.
