Fashion versus intelligence

Review of new products on the mobile phone market

The mobile phone market has become so crowded that manufacturing companies have to look for all sorts of ways to convince potential buyers of the benefits of their devices. For example, their built-in camera is better because it rotates 180 degrees or has maximum resolution, is extremely compact, etc. With all the technical intensity of such advertisements, it is usually impossible to hear about how the phone works, how sensitive it is to receiving communications. However, few people seem to be interested in a mobile phone that can only be used for talking. Taking into account the fierce competition, manufacturers fighting for each client are forced to talk about all the advantages of their phones in advance. Last week, leading mobile phone manufacturers - Nokia and Siemens - presented their new products.

Emphasis on intelligence

In winter, the German company Siemens will offer the new Siemens SF65 phone to the sophisticated Russian buyer. Manufacturers have high hopes for it. First of all, this is a high-quality 1.3-megapixel digital camera, a built-in LED flash, a screen with a 180-degree rotation and 65 thousand colors. The device is equipped with an advanced image editing function, and together with the 4x zoom function, the user will be able to focus on any detail of the captured object, regardless of the time of day. The memory of this phone is limited to 18 MB. For those who choose a phone solely by appearance, we can say the usual words about smooth design lines, original appearance, unique shape, etc. This toy weighs 97 g. It also has 64-voice polyphonic ringtones and many different applications.

As you would expect, specialists from Siemens evaluate the SF65 no less eloquently. “We have applied the experience of using digital cameras in the process of creating a mobile phone, so that now every user can easily take pictures of the best quality and resolution with the smallest details at any time of the day,” said Thorsten Heins, president of the Siemens mobile phone division. The SF65 will come complete with a wide range of branded accessories (various headphones, including Purestyle headphones, chargers, an additional battery, a data cable, a practical case and a Car Kit Portable). The model will be presented in Polar White color. Its estimated cost is 450-. -500 dollars.

Beautiful, stylish and obscenely expensive

Nokia presented its new series of fashionable phones in Shanghai a week ago. According to the manufacturer, the collection, which includes the Nokia 7260, Nokia 7270 and Nokia 7280, is based on the old Art Deco style, supported by the ideas of that time about movement, color, geometry and graphics, as well as modern technical achievements. All three models are representatives of the so-called Fashion line - a line of phones for those who want to keep up with fashion and keep up with progress.

The main advantages of the Nokia 7260 are a VGA camera, FM radio and a tri-band network standard - GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz. The display of this model contains 128x128 pixels, 65 thousand colors. Dimensions (105x45x18 mm) and weight (92 g) can be called standard. The operating time matches modern parameters: talk time - 3 hours, standby time - 350 hours. What's really worth noting is the design. The parts are made of chrome and steel. In addition, the manufacturers decided to equip the 7260 model with a program for converting shoe and clothing sizes for different countries. The approximate cost of the phone is 250 euros. Expected appearance in Russia is November of this year.

Nokia 7270 is a new clamshell with two displays in a detailed deco style. The external display has a resolution of 96x65 pixels (25.6x19 mm), displays about 4 thousand colors, the internal one with a resolution of 128x160 pixels (31.7x38.9 mm) supports the reproduction of 65 thousand colors. The device operates in the EGSM 900, GSM 1800/1900 MHz standard. The built-in VGA camera with 4x digital zoom is equipped with various settings. The video finder can be either an internal or external display. Thanks to wireless headphones, you can listen to the radio. Model 7270 supports SMS, MMS, e-mail and IM, and is also equipped with Push-to-Talk technology, GPRS class 10 (4+1, 3+2), EDGE, HSCSD. With all its capabilities, its dimensions are only 88x46x22 mm with a weight of 121 g. Talk time is 4 hours, standby time is 270 hours. Design highlights include an engraved stainless steel folding case panel, complemented by a matching textile case, interchangeable strap and pouch. The approximate price of the phone is 400 euros. The device will appear on the shelves of Russian cellular communication stores in late November - early December.

When you first look at the Nokia 7280, you get the impression that this is a lighter. Finnish designers managed to achieve this effect by eliminating the keyboard from the phone. All control occurs through voice commands and several auxiliary buttons. Tri-band phone (GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900 MHz). The display supports a resolution of 102x208 pixels and displays 65 thousand colors. Weighing 64g, the phone has both a VGA camera and stereo FM radio. Phone size: 115x32x19 mm. Talk time is 3 hours, standby time is 240 hours. The sparkling body with inserts of leather and mirror surfaces will definitely make the Nokia 7280 a luxury item, as evidenced by the price of the phone - about 600 euros. Sales are scheduled to begin no earlier than December.

“With the release of new phones, we hope to strengthen our position and fully satisfy the needs of our potential customers,” Nokia PR coordinator Sergei Sidorov told Vremya Novostei. -- Fashion in the mobile phone market, as in any other area, is developing rapidly. We hope that the three new models will find their owners in Russia and take their rightful place in the fashion line.”
